Khadija is a dedicated professional with over nine years of experience in human rights, women rights, gender equality and workforce development. Originally from Afghanistan, Khadija moved to the U.S. in 2024 and now leads workforce development initiatives at RAI, empowering refugees and immigrants through job training and economic opportunities. She is committed to fostering long-term success and community integration.
Why did you want to be a part of RAI?
I wanted to be part of RAI because I deeply believe in empowering refugee women through meaningful work and skill development. As someone who has spent many years supporting vulnerable communities, specifically women, RAI’s mission strongly aligns with both my personal and professional values. The idea of combining creativity, sustainability and economic empowerment to support refugee women truly inspired me.
What do you like best about your job at RAI?
What I appreciate most about my role is witnessing the growth and increased confidence of the artisans. When women strengthen their skills, earn income, and become more independent, it is incredibly rewarding. I also value the collaborative and supportive environment within the organization. Everyone is genuinely committed to making a positive and lasting impact.
I am grateful to be part of an organization that values dignity, empowerment, and community. It is an honor to contribute to work that not only supports women financially but also uplifts their confidence and sense of belonging. I truly enjoy working with diverse individuals and learning from their experiences. My colleagues are incredibly supportive, and I genuinely appreciate the positive and encouraging work environment. What inspires or excites you most about RAI?
What excites me most is RAI’s potential to create long-term change in the lives of refugee women and their families. The creativity of the artisans, the dedication of the team, and the strong community support make this work meaningful every day. Seeing women transform challenges into strength and opportunity is truly inspiring.
What are your hopes for the future of RAI?
My hope is that RAI continues to grow sustainably, expands its programs, and reaches even more refugee women in need. I would like to see us strengthen our workforce development programs, build strong partnerships, and create additional pathways for artisans to achieve economic stability and leadership opportunities.
