On October 20, 2026, Refugee Artisan Initiative (RAI) staff member Khadija was recognized as a Seattle Kraken Hero of the Deep, honoring her contributions to the community. It was a special moment for Khadija and the RAI team, who were there to cheer her on and celebrate this well-deserved recognition.

At RAI, Khadija plays an important role in supporting the refugee and immigrant women at the heart of our organization. Her work helps create an environment where artisans can develop their skills, access meaningful work opportunities, and build connections with one another. Through her dedication and support, she contributes to a community where women encourage each other and work toward their goals together.

RAI partners with refugee and immigrant women to build on their existing sewing skills and experiences, create paid work opportunities, and develop pathways toward economic opportunity. Behind this work is a team committed to supporting artisans and helping create the conditions for them to thrive.

Seeing Khadija recognized at a Seattle Kraken game was an opportunity for our team to celebrate the care and commitment she brings to her work. Having RAI staff there to support her made the occasion even more meaningful.
