Welcome New Artisan, Deya!

As RAI continues expanding our artisan team, we would like to introduce Deya, one of RAI's newest artisans!

This year, Deya and her family came to the US from Afghanistan where she worked in media for TV, radio, and news. As a young girl, she followed her passions of becoming a news reporter and worked her way up in the industry. Starting as an early morning news anchor, she progressed through her career doing on the scene reporting, and eventually managing TV and radio stations, and a newspaper until she left for the United States. She proudly shares her experiences, noting that one of her motivators in her career was to be a role model for other girls and women who want to share their opinions as she did in reporting.

Her goals for the next year include attaining her driver's license, learning to speak English, and developing a "normal" life here, with the hope to eventually live out her dreams again as a journalist.

In addition to Deya’s journalism skills, she is also a wonderful sewist and RAI is lucky to have her join the artisan team. With the continued support of the community, RAI hopes to continue expanding work opportunities and onboarding more immigrant and refugee women.
